The Boston Police Department is a Full Service Law Enforcement Agency providing 24/7 protection to all persons and property within the City of Boston. The officers of the Boston Police Department are committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment for all persons who reside and visit our great city. The Boston Police Department consists of 6 officers and 2 K-9 Teams providing Canine resources to all agencies within Thomas County and surrounding areas.

The Mission of the Boston Police Department is to provide a transparent, professional, and honest service to all citizens, visitors, and patrons of the City of Boston regardless of race, creed, or nationality. All while maintaining the highest degree of integrity and accountability with every encounter.

Chief of Police

With more than 17 years of distinguished service in public safety, Chief Charles Pettus brings a breadth of expertise and leadership to the Boston Police Department. A proud second-generation law enforcement officer, Chief Pettus is committed to ensuring that all members of the community—residents, visitors, and passersby—are treated with fairness, dignity, and respect.

He holds extensive instructor certifications in Use of Force, Tactical Medicine, Speed Detection, Active Shooter Response, TASER deployment, and Less Lethal Force Options, among other critical areas of public safety. Known for his dedication to mentorship and training, Chief Pettus continually invests in the professional development of officers, preparing them to serve safely, ethically, and effectively.

Beyond his role as Chief of Police, he serves on the Thomas County/Thomasville SWAT Team, is the Assistant Coordinator for the Southern Regional Traffic Enforcement Network, and chairs the Traffic Safety Committee for the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police. His professional affiliations include the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, International Association of Chiefs of Police, Georgia Gang Investigators Association, and the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST).

Chief Pettus remains steadfast in advancing modern policing practices, ensuring that his department operates at the highest levels of professionalism while fostering an inclusive culture that serves all people equally—regardless of race, color, creed, or nationality.
