The Boston Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency providing 24-hour protection and public safety services to the residents, businesses, and visitors of the City of Boston, Georgia.

Our officers are committed to protecting life and property while providing professional, responsive, and community-focused law enforcement services. We strive to maintain a safe and welcoming environment where everyone is treated with fairness, dignity, and respect.

Uniform Patrol

The Uniform Patrol Division serves as the backbone of the Boston Police Department. Patrol officers provide around-the-clock law enforcement services, respond to calls for service, conduct proactive patrols, enforce state and local laws, investigate incidents, and work closely with members of the community to address public safety concerns.

Canine Operations

The Boston Police Department maintains canine resources to support patrol, investigations, public safety operations, and other specialized law enforcement needs. Our canine capabilities also allow the department to assist partner agencies throughout Thomas County and surrounding areas when specialized resources are needed.

Specialized Units and Task Forces

Boston Police Department officers are assigned to and participate in specialized units, multi-jurisdictional teams, and law enforcement task forces. These partnerships provide additional training, resources, and operational capabilities while strengthening cooperation among local, regional, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

Community Policing

Strong relationships with the community are essential to effective policing. The Boston Police Department is committed to maintaining open communication with residents, businesses, community organizations, and visitors.

Through proactive patrols, public education, community outreach, traffic safety initiatives, and crime-prevention efforts, our officers work to address concerns before they become larger problems and to build lasting trust with those we serve.

Need a copy of a police report or other law enforcement record maintained by the Boston Police Department? Use this link to download an Open Records Request Form. Completed forms should be dropped off in person or emailed to chiefpettus@bostonga.com. Requests will be reviewed and processed in accordance with applicable Georgia law and departmental procedures, and any records that are legally available for release will be provided as promptly as practicable.

Charles Pettus

Chief of Police

Chief Charles Pettus brings more than 20 years of distinguished public safety experience to his role as Chief of Police for the Boston Police Department. A second-generation law enforcement officer, he is dedicated to ensuring every individual—resident, visitor, or passerby—is treated with fairness, dignity, and respect.

Chief Pettus holds numerous instructor certifications, including Use of Force, Tactical Medicine, Speed Detection, Active Shooter Response, TASER deployment, and Less Lethal Force Options. He is committed to officer development, placing a strong emphasis on training, mentorship, and preparedness to ensure officers serve their community safely, ethically, and effectively.

In addition to his leadership role, Chief Pettus serves on the Thomas County/Thomasville SWAT Team, is the Coordinator for the Southern Regional Traffic Enforcement Network, and chairs the Traffic Safety Committee for the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Georgia Gang Investigators Association, and the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST).
